Biografia [/size]Il gruppo nasce nel 1971 per opera dei fondatori Glenn Frey (chitarra) east Don Henley (batteria). L'anno seguente vengono assoldati altri due elementi: Bernie Leadon (chitarra due east mandolino) eastward Randy Meisner (basso). Con questa formazione il gruppo pubblica nel 1972 il primo album, Eagles. Il lavoro, sorretto da alcune hit di buon successo come up Take it Easy eastward Witchy Adult female, fa conoscere la ring a tutta l'impresa discografica dell'epoca; in breve tempo, gli Eagles diventano il punto di riferimento della musica della w-coast di quel periodo alla stregua di united nations'altra band dell'epoca, i Poco.
Proprio dallo stile dei Poco gli Eagles si discostano sensibilmente dopo il secondo album Desperado (accolto tiepidamente dal pubblico), e optano per un ritmo più influenzato dal rock che dal state. Nel 1974, con fifty'ausilio di un nuovo elemento (la chitarra solista Don Felder) la band pubblica On the Edge, in cui si trova il primo singolo da prima posizione in classifica: The all-time of my Love.
Col successo, però, nascono anche alcune tensioni all'interno della banda. Leadon, decisamente orientato al country, non apprezza la svolta elettrica in corso. All'indomani della pubblicazione del quarto lavoro della band (1 of these nights), Leadon abbandona (nel 1975).
Leadon viene rimpiazzato da united nations nuovo chitarrista dall'anima decisamente stone, Joe Walsh. L'anno seguente gli Eagles pubblicano Hotel California riconosciuto universalmente come il capolavoro del gruppo. Il successo di vendite e di critica proietta la band nell'olimpo del stone, dando un impulso deciso anche alla raccolta pubblicata pochi mesi prima, Their greatest Hits, che si avvia rapidamente verso il tape assoluto di vendite negli USA (recentemente è diventato il disco più venduto negli United states).
Maggiore successo coincide anche con maggiori lacerazioni in seno al gruppo, il bassista Randy Meisner getta la spugna dopo diverse risse con i compagni d'avventura, e il suo posto viene preso da Timothy B. Schmit (reduce dall'esperienza maturata con i Poco, in cui guarda caso aveva sostituito lo stesso Meisner).
Il gruppo entra in crisi creativa, le canzoni non riescono più a uscire dalle penne dei cinque membri e prima di vedere l'uscita del nuovo album passeranno 3 anni (un'enormità per una band da un LP all'anno). The Long Run il sesto anthology della band esce sul finire del 1979, ma soffre del clima non certo idilliaco in cui è stato partorito. Il consumo di alcool e droga porta alla degenerazione dei rapporti personali in seno alla band. Dopo 50'anthology dal vivo Eagles Alive e un Greatest Hits: Vol II il gruppo si scioglie, siamo al 1982.
Gli anni '80 vedono gli ex membri della band tentare la carriera solista, Frey east soprattutto Henley riescono a costruire un discreto successo, gli altri membri invece si dividono tra album solisti scarsamente rilevanti east collaborazioni con altri cantanti o gruppi musicali.
Nel corso degli anni la nostalgia tra il pubblico per quelle soavi canzoni country rock aumenta, east nel 1993 viene decisa la realizzazione di united nations CD tributo alla band, con i pezzi migliori degli Eagles cantati dalle voci country più in voga. Il disco vende oltre tre milioni di copie, due east ancora oggi è il disco tributo che ha venduto di più nella storia. Gli Eagles, trovatisi sul fix per il video musicale di lancio del CD, si accorgono che è il momento di rimettersi in moto, avendo anche superato le grosse difficoltà nei rapporti tra loro stessi.
Negli anni precedenti tutti i membri della band erano parsi categorici nel negare una reunion del gruppo, Don Henley disse che l'unica possibilità si sarebbe avuto solo se fifty'inferno si fosse congelato.
Due east così avvenne, nel 1994 Hell freezes Over segna il ritorno degli Eagles sulla scena con Timothy Drury alle tastiere. L'anthology contiene iv inediti registrati in studio più united nations live dei loro maggiori successi. Le vendite li premiano ancora una volta, sembra tornato il sereno. Il DVD di Hell freezes Over diventa in breve quello che è a tutt'oggi, ossia il DVD più venduto della storia della musica.
Tra tournée estenuanti e periodi di sano distacco l'attività della band procede più che altro sulla forza dei vecchi successi. Nel 1998 avviene pure l'entrata nella Hall of Fame, ma 50'ennesima crisi è dietro l'angolo.
Nel 2001 a febbraio, viene improvvisamente licenziato Don Felder per dissidi con Henley e Frey; il gruppo torna ad essere un quartetto, ma si rimette subito on the route per celebrare il trentennale. Fifty'attività continua anche in questi ultimi anni, nel 2003 esce united nations nuovo singolo, Pigsty in the World e nel 2004 parte l'ennesimo tour che culminerà nel 2005 con l'uscita del nuovo DVD live della band "Farewell I - Alive from Melbourne" contenente un paio di canzoni inedite. Il 2006 vede la band impegnata ulteriormente nel vecchio continente con l'ultima parte del Farewell I tour e con la novità di united nations nuovo album in studio "Long road out of Eden" , più volte rinviato, uscito in Italy il 26 ottobre 2007. Il nuovo singolo è "How long" (forse il titolo si riferisce all'attesa dei fan per united nations nuovo disco?) e vede come lead vocals Glen Frey e Don Henley. L'anthology (doppio) ha una track listing lunghissima, rispetto agli anthology precedenti (che uscirono tutti quando gli unici supporti erano il vinile e la cassetta analogica): 20 canzoni - 11 sul primo cd e 9 sul secondo e darà quindi spazio ai quattro membri per soddisfare i fan diversamente legati ad ognuno di loro.
